Entrepreneurial girl scout sells cookies outside marijuana dispensary

Danielle Lei, a 13-year old girl scout in San Francisco has set out for selling cookies outside a marijuana dispensary in San Francisco area. She sold a whopping 117 boxes in 2 hours. The middle-school age girl scout and her mom got permission from the dispensary, and have been invited back to sell more.

Girl scout cookie selling has been a way for young girls to learn about community, handling money, customer service skills, and this mother also takes this as an opportunity to talk to her daughters about the use of drugs. “They learn that they’re not drugged out,” said the mother Carol Lei. “Many have serious needs, and are just a little different.” She puts it in a way that her daughters understand.

This is a prime example of a successful business plan that fulfills the need (marijuana is a known powerful appetite stimulant) and perfectly executed. Danielle is getting a powerful real life lesson of entrepreneurship and is gathering plenty of media exposure. Isn’t this what running and marketing a business all about?

Do you think this is a great think out-of-the-box moment for cookie selling or it’s out of line? Share your comments below.
